HI Shannon, it was good seeing you last week. And your son is about the cutest boy and what a personality!

We spoke briefly about the products my daughterinlaw represents……would you tell me again what you said about how getting with you would work, and I believe you mentioned the advantage of Nordstrom. It was a kind of distracting night and I wnat to tell Tamara what you said, but correctly so.
        Thanks, mimi

        • Shannon on April 4, 2013 at 6:56 am

      • Mimi Vitaro on December 20, 2012 at 10:13 pm

HI Shannon, Just saw your dad briefly at a neighborhood party….. I have a situation whereby my lips will peel, feel chapped and dry with any lipstick I use, even the ones from whole foods.

Would you know of a line that does not use the ingredients that commonly cause these problems, I think there are 1 or 2 ingredients that are the culplrit. Perhaps knowing which ones are possible cause would be able to eliminate brands, and find one lipstick that does make my lips feel fine.

Would really appreciate your input on this

        Mimi

        • Shannon on December 22, 2012 at 11:44 am

          Hi Mimi!
All of the bspot girls really like the Chantecaille Lip Chic and the Clinique Chubby Sticks.
I have the same problem with my lips getting dried out and the Chantecaille is very moisturizing and definitely does not dry out my lips and has pretty good staying power. It also has more color than the Chubby Stick. The Clinique Chubby stick is actually a tinted lip balm so it really works great for this problem, but the color goes on muted. I found the staying power of the Chubby Stick to be a little bit better, but I highly recommend them both! We have reviewed both of them on the site.
Chantecaille is a little more difficult to find than the Clinique, but your Nordstrom at Waterside shops might have it. If not you can order it online through Nordstrom.com with free shipping. I would love to know what you decide and your thoughts on how they work for you!
Hope to see you all soon!

          • Mimi Vitaro on February 6, 2013 at 9:16 pm

HI Shannon , thanks for the advice. I will look for the Chantecaille lipstick Mimi

          • Mimi Vitaro on February 6, 2013 at 9:22 pm

            Shannon,

I wanted to mention to you a product for face & body that I had heard about and decided to try it. It seems to be pretty good. They have an am/pm cream + other skin products, very in-expensive—-the name is —- CeraVe___ it contains “:ceramics & hyaluronic acid”
Do you know of it? Prices are under $20.00/item Mimi

          • Mimi Vitaro on February 6, 2013 at 9:24 pm

sorry for spelling mistake, one of the products is ceramics. I spelled it wrong in the previous email.

          • Shannon on February 7, 2013 at 10:11 pm

Hi Mimi! I have recently heard about the CeraVe as well and have been very intrigued. We would be happy to try out some of the products and let you know what we think!

        • Michelle on December 22, 2012 at 12:56 pm

Hi Mimi, Do you happen to know which ingredients you are reacting to? If not I would love to research this for you and find a lip product that does not contain it. Also, do you exfoliate your lips? This may not be a bad idea for you. I could recommend a product or you can use something as simple as sugar and honey. Thank you! Michelle

          • Mimi Vitaro on February 6, 2013 at 9:17 pm

Thanks for the advice, Michelle…I will certainly read all the ingredients in any lipstick I look to buy.

        • Michelle on December 22, 2012 at 2:22 pm

Mimi-A little information for you. Hope it helps.

Menthol, camphor, and phenol-These might feel good BUT they are also drying. So drying that they make you want to apply more often and it creates a vicious cycle.
Silicone Oil-Keeps lipsticks and glosses lasting longer BUT locks out moisture.
Fragrance-This sucks the moisture right out of your lips, especially when mixed with alcohol.
Salicylic Acid-Makes your lips dry AND peel. Yikes! This could be one of the culprits.

All of these are common ingredients in lip products, so watch out. I hope this helps you. Michelle

    • Susannah on October 31, 2012 at 12:13 pm

Thank you, Caroline! Are there any products you’d like us to test for you?

  11. april on November 6, 2012 at 7:16 pm

hi girls! How long do you try/test the products? like face/body creams to see the results? Makeup is pretty instant so no need to do that long I understand. also, I would love to see a search tool on your site so I can just go on quickly and type in “mascara” or something and all the ones you’ve reviewed will show up. I hope to eventually have several products of the same kind pop up after my search and while I am at the store I can just buy the one ya’ll agree is best! there are SO MANY CHOICES out there now!

    • Michelle on November 6, 2012 at 9:03 pm

Hi April! Thanks for visiting thebspotgirls.com. We currently test 8 products a month. The duration of the testing depends on the product. If we are looking for a certain result we will go with the recommended time frame that the company has suggested and sometimes longer. (example-eye creams, bb creams, cc creams) We also have to be cautious of breakouts and skin sensitivities so there are times we test something and when we experience a skin reaction we tend to back off of it and then give it another try a week or so down the line to determine if it was the product or not. Then there are the products that produce instant results like a mascara or a brightener and we could easily have a good and accurate review in one application or a few days of testing it several different ways. So really the testing time depends on the product.

Great idea for a product search tool! We will get working on that for you. Our website is constantly changing so we can please our frequent readers like you. Thank you so much for the recommendations and visit us again soon!!!

  12. april on November 6, 2012 at 7:19 pm

also, I would love you to test some more dry shampoo’s! I am starting to use them more and more…

oscar blandi and Ojon both make some

The sprays are so different than the powders, but my hair seems to respond better to the powders. The tinted powders are a NO NO, they end up all over my hands and it’s annoying.

    • Michelle on November 6, 2012 at 9:09 pm

We will get another dry shampoo on our future product list for you. I would love to try a powder. We are currently working on a “beauty bag” for the website so you can see what we are currently testing and what “will be placed in our bag” in the future and we hope to have a place to have suggestions for people like you. Yes, the tinted powder seems like it may be a bit messy. Maybe we can try one and come up with a better way to apply it? Thank you for all the suggestions April!

  13. Kate on November 15, 2012 at 6:02 pm

Great work, BSpot Girls! I have enjoyed reading your posts and love how each of your true voice comes through in your honest appraisal of the products. Keep it up!

I’m in the market for an eyelash tint… any suggestions?

    • Sarah on February 12, 2013 at 9:17 pm

      Anne,
Would you get this done professionally? My sister-in-law goes to our local Aveda salon for a professional tint. It’s not expensive and she likes the results on her fair lashes. I will keep thinking about this. Xo, Sarah

  16. Michelle on December 13, 2012 at 8:53 am

Hi Anne, Thanks for stopping by! We haven’t tested any eyelash tints, but I will do some research in this category. In the mean time, if you find one worth testing, we would love to hear about your experience. XXOO

  20. Katherine Captain on February 7, 2013 at 12:54 pm

Hi girls – I love your site!
I am wondering if you will be reviewing any eyeliners in the future. I am in need of a new one and am a little scared of liquid for every day. I would love to know your favorites!

    Keep up the great work.

    Katherine

    • Susannah on February 10, 2013 at 10:15 pm

Hi Katherine! I love the YSL eye pencil, Dessin Du Regard Crayon Yeux Haute Tenue. There is also a waterproof version, but this one stays on well and rinses clean with no real effort. I love the texture of this pencil – not too creamy, not too dry. It goes on quickly and smoothly. No fuss! It’s on the high end, about $30, but I think it’s staying power makes it worth the price. It comes in 14 colors. I have the Velvet Black – great for day or night. Hope this helps!

      • Katherine Captain on February 12, 2013 at 10:05 am

Thank you! I will check it out 🙂

    • Sarah on February 12, 2013 at 9:20 pm

      Katherine,
A friend just gave me Nars Larger Than Life Long Wear Eyeliner. It is very smooth and has staying power. This one’s worth a look!! Xo, Sarah
