I love putting my makeup on in the morning. As a busy mother of a toddler and a preschooler, it’s often the only time I do something for myself all day. I want to look my best, but like so many women, I struggle to get enough sleep, eat right, exercise, and keep up with the endless advice about how to stay young! I often need help from lots of beauty products to put my best face forward. Over the years, I’ve been willing to try just about any product based on its advertising claims or word of mouth. What I discovered from these trials is that my skin and eyes are extra sensitive, wrinkles are essentially permanent, and finding a great mascara is cause for celebration! But along the way, I developed a bare bones plan that keeps me from throwing in the towel.
I’d love to get nine hours of sleep every night, but I’ll settle for seven at least five times a week. I try to eat right all day, but I’ll settle for a nutritious breakfast. I’d love to exercise seven days a week, but I’ll settle for two and aim for more. As far as the advice I hear and read about staying young, well that’s where b spot girls comes in. From the advertisements to the talk shows to a simple trip to the makeup counter, the “you shoulds” keep coming.
It takes time and concentration to learn what works best for you. My goal is to take the guesswork out of shopping for beauty products, and in the process, save you time, money, and aggravation. I’m a mother of 3! Let’s face it, I am busy! I’m a chef, chauffeur, referee, nurse, psychologist, teacher, mentor, mind reader, librarian, Marine sergeant, therapist, and a shoulder to cry on! But being busy is no excuse for not looking good! When I look good, I feel good, and when I feel good, I have more confidence. When I’m more confident, I accomplish much more during the day.
It’s important for a woman to take care of herself and be happy. When this is done everything else falls into place. Women often take care of everyone around them first, take care of themselves last, and by that time we’re too exhausted to care. This can turn into a disaster! bspotgirls.com is a place where women of all ages can come together to find a happy medium. It’s a never ending process trying to figure out the products that are a MUST HAVE and ruling out the ones that are just a big waste of time and money. LET US DO THIS FOR YOU!
A woman needs a moment of peace several times a day. For me it’s locking myself in my bathroom and treating myself to SPA À LA MICHELLE! I have my routine and I don’t like to be disturbed! I can close the door and not think about anything but myself for a while. It may only be 20 minutes with 3 babies, but that 20 minutes can make a huge difference. I take a bath (with an occasional MOMosa during the evenings), shave my legs, pamper myself, and do my typical daily beauty regimen with makeup and beauty products. This is essential. When I accomplish this I have a better attitude during the day. Taking even a short amount of time to make yourself feel and look better can go a long way.
Coco Chanel said it perfectly! “You can be gorgeous at thirty, charming at forty, and irresistible for the rest of your life.” Let’s make this our goal, Girlfriends!
Sarah, West Dundee, IL
I live in West Dundee, IL, a suburb of Chicago. Like most women, I wear many hats. I am a wife, mother, student, teacher, volunteer, and blogger. It is so easy to put yourself last, and I am constantly striving for balance. Even if I am going to spend the day in yoga pants, I will use bronzer and mascara. I tan well, and this is a beauty asset for me. However, I am starting to see the results of sunbathing in my teens and twenties, so please follow my goal of eradicating sun spots and wrinkles. Well, minimizing anyway. I have also struggled, even in adulthood, with acne. While I am open to natural remedies I am a strong believer in Western medicine, and my dermatologist has helped me tremendously. I use topical and internal prescription medicine and I cross my fingers each morning when I look in the mirror. I am a “girly girl.” You know those cool “girl next door girls” who rock their sneakers and plaid while still managing to look attractive? Not me! I am much more at home in a wedge with some lip gloss. I hope I don’t come off as high maintenance, but I am true to myself!. I think true beauty comes from within, but a little girly stuff never hurt anyone!
I love to read product reviews, but they always seem faceless and anonymous. It makes me wonder if companies are using paid sponsors to “review.” In fact, many are. It is so much fun to be on the hunt for newer and better products. I am always trying to look better, younger, and more confident. Sampling products and writing about them in a thorough way is something I find enjoyable and I hope that it will be an asset to you.
Shannon, Cincinnati, Ohio
Welcome to bspotgirls.com! My name is Shannon, and I recently made a move to Cincinnati, Ohio, with my husband and two young children. I am a busy mom with a busy life, but even though life is busy, I still make time for beauty.
I have always been passionate about beauty products and fashion, but I did not grow up near a metropolitan area, so I always felt at a bit of a disadvantage as far as trends go. I also sometimes feel I need a little reassurance when I am going out on the town with my husband or friends. I have gotten so much better about this with each birthday, but I wish bspotgirls.com would have been around when I was growing up. Having a site like this one would have helped me find out what products “my friends” were using, it would have helped me to locate the products in the small community I grew up in, and it would have helped encourage me to step out into the world with more confidence.
